Summary
Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (University of Valencia, 1999–2005) and specialist in Dermatology, Doctor of Medicine with Outstanding cum laude since 2015 with the project “Growth rate in skin cancer”.
Dr. Martorell has 14 years of experience in the field of dermatological health (Valencian Institute of Oncology, Valencia, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, North Carolina, Manises Hospital, Valencia).
Dr Martorell is Coordinator of the Spanish Hidradenitis Suppurativa Taskforce, member of the Spanish Group of Psorisasis, European Academy of Dermatology, Spanish Academy of Dermatology, member of the scientific committee in the European Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation and co-founder of the Dermus Imaging taskforce.
He is Associate professor of Dermatology in the Catholic University of Medicine (Valencia, Spain, 2016-Ongoing), and is author of 352 national and international lectures, 221 ISI publications (181, as first author), 22 book chapters and has participated as editor of 11 books. He also founded and coordinates the Manises Hospital´s Dermatology Investigation Unit, adhered to the HULAFE, with 9 multicentric projects (3 of them currently ongoing), 24 Phase II/III/IV Clinical Assays (20 of them, as main investigator, 11 currently ongoing) focused on psoriasis, Hidradenitis suppurativa, Urticaria, Atopic Dermatitis and Vitiligo.
In 2010 he established an IMID (Immunomediated Inflammatory Skin Diseases) Unit focused on Hidradenitis Suppurativa, Psoriasis, Atopic Dermatitis and other related autoinflammatory diseases/Cutaneous diseases associated with systemic pathologies. Currently the unit develop periodic onsite training courses for European and Non European medical doctors to improve their skills and develop monthly webinars for this purpose (median: onsite, 5; online 8 per year).
In terms of technological R+D skills, He has developed a course in managerial skills (IESE Barcelona 2010) as well as a Tech-Com course organized by IESE as part of the ACTIVVATE grant obtained in 2018 with the project “Scanface”.
In 2019 he received a SME I grant from the European Commision focused on the development of Artificial Intelligence solutions for the skin and healthcare (www.skiana.com). He is also leading new studies focused on the application of Imaging technologies in Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
